External hex implants

Externally hexed implants are machined out of grade 1 titanium with the exception of OSSEOTITE®2 implants in two body geometries, parallel and tapered. The crest module for either body style is available with a traditional platform diameter closely matched to the implant body diameter (standard), as XP® (expanded platform) where the platform diameter is significantly larger than the implant body diameter.

Implants are offered in four platform (implant/abutment interface) diameters of 3.4, 4.1, 5.0 and 6.0mm ported in various configurations to five implant body diameters of 3.25, 3.75, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0mm. Some implants are color coded for platform diameter identification purple (3.4), blue (4.1), yellow (5.0) and green (6.0). Eight implant lengths are available for external implants, 7, 8.5, 10, 11.5, 13, 15, 18 and 20mm.

OSSEOTITE® surface treated implants are dual acid washed to achieve a osseo conductive surface roughness. The extent of the acid washed surface area is available in three choices, from the apex of the implant to the edge of the implant platform, from the apex of the implant to the beginning of the crest module, leaving a machined collar of 0.5mm up to 1.5mm depending on the body geometry and implant diameter. Hybrid surface implants have a untreated surface area extending from the collar to the second or third thread of the implant body.

OSSEOTITE®2 implants are made of grade 4 titanium and treated with the same surface acid wash procedure as standard OSSEOTITE® implants. The difference between the two OSSEOTITE® implants is the apical geometry for all four platform diameters and a modified thread pattern design of 5.0 and 6.0mm platform diameters. OSSEOTITE®2 implants are machined with a parallel wall geometry only and one crest module. The standard crest module diameter closely follows the diameter of the implant A shortened apical taper produces a longer parallel wall section and a reduced cutting flute height at the apical of the implants.

NanoTite™ surface enhanced implants are acid washed like OSSEOTITE® implants with a discrete crystalline deposition (DCD™) of nano sized calcium phosphate particles to further accelerate osseointegration. The NanoTite™ surface is carried within 0.85 and 1.64mm of the implant/abutment platform, leaving a body geometry dependent machined collar of the same height. Although the implants are labeled a specific length, the actual implant is 0.4mm shorter than indicated.

Certain® internal hex implants

Internally hexed implants are machined out of grade 5 titanium with the exception of OSSEOTITE®2 implants in two body geometries, parallel and tapered. The crest module for either body style is available with a traditional platform diameter closely matched to the implant body diameter ( standard) or as XP® (expanded platform) where the platform diameter is significantly larger than the implant body diameter. Prevail® implants have modified XP® crest module where the platform is beveled at 15°, medializing the abutment interface by 0.35mm.

Implants are offered in four platform (implant/abutment interface) diameters of 3.4, 4.1, 5.0 and 6.0mm ported in various configurations to five implant body diameters of 3.25, 3.75, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0mm. Some implants are color coded for platform diameter identification purple (3.4), blue (4.1), yellow (5.0) and green (6.0). Eight implant lengths are available for external implants, 7, 8.5, 10, 11.5, 13, 15, 18 and 20mm.

The internal connection, with the exception of 3.4mm platform implants is machined with a hex configuration at the crest module of the implant (primary indexing feature) and a dodecagon (double hex) further inside the implant (secondary indexing feature). 3.25 platform implants are machined with a dodecagon only due to their limited diameter. The dodecagon feature allows for twelve different positions of angled abutments. Delicate prongs manufactured on to the engaging feature of Certain® prosthetic components interface with the QuickSeat® element of the implant to give tactile and audible feedback to indicate proper seating of the prosthetic components.

The standard crest module diameter follows the diameter of the implant while the PREVAIL® implant group has a slightly larger diameter than the platform, producing a platform switching (shifting) effect. A shortened apical taper produces a longer parallel wall section and a reduced cutting flute height at the apical of the implants.

T3® internal hex implants

T3® implants are machined with the familiar Certain® implant/abutment interface in parallel and tapered body geometry versions with or without built in platform switching features. The surface roughening treatment differs from the standard dual acid wash process of Biomet 3i™ implants. Outside surfaces of the T3® implant are resorbable blast media (calcium phosphate) blasted and then acid etched, resulting in two distinct roughness dimension areas on the implant body. A fine surface topography of 1-3 micron is evident at the coronal and apical 1/4 while the middle half of the implant body has a surface roughness of 10 micron pits. T3® implants are offered with an optional discrete crystalline deposition (DCD™) of nano sized calcium phosphate particles (NanoTite™) to potentially enhance osseointegration.
