BIOMET 3i IMPRESSION COPINGS (TRANSFERS)
External hex implants
Fig. 1
Indirect (closed tray, Fig.1) and direct (open tray, Fig.3) fixture level impression
copings are not color coded with the exception of 3.4mm (micro mini)
impression copings which are purple in color and only offered as a direct
impression coping in one emergence profile of 3.8mm. Several emergence
profiles are available for all other platform diameters and work in conjunction
with available EP® (Emergence Profile) healing abutments,
stock titanium
GingiHue® abutment and
ZiReal® zirconia abutment emergence profiles.
Fig. 2
4.1 platform impression copings are produced in three emergence profiles
of 5.0, 6.0 and 7.5mm. 5.0 platform impression copings (Fig.2) are offered in
profiles of 5.0, 6.0, 7.5mm and 6.0 platform copings are available with
6.0 and 7.5mm emergence profiles. The indirect Twist-Lock impression
coping require a special tool (catalog # ICDOO) for tightening and direct
impression copings require a 0.048' hex driver. Twist-Lock impression
copings are machined in a symmetrical geometry and can therefore
be repositioned in to the impression in any of three ways, as long as the
grooves on the impression coping line up with the grooves in the
impression material upon repositioning the copings in to the impression.
Fig. 3
The external hex on external hex Biomet 3i implants is machined to
the same dimension regardless of implant diameter for 4.1, 5.0 and 6.0mm
implant/abutment platform diameters. This feature would allow impressioning
of a 6.0mm platform diameter implant with a 4.1mm platform diameter impression
coping and vice versa. Employing such a technique requires notification of the
dental technician through the restorative Rx to avoid any misunderstanding.
Certain® internal hex implants
Indirect (closed tray, Fig.4) and direct (open tray, Fig.6) fixture level impression
copings are color coded in compliance with the general platform color
coding scheme. Purple represents the 3.4mm implant/abutment platform diameter,
blue 4.1mm, yellow 5.0mm and green 6.0mm.
Fig. 4
Several emergence profiles are available for each platform
diameter and work in conjunction with available healing abutment emergence
profiles. 3.4mm platform impression copings are offered in two emergence
profiles of 3.4 and 3.8mm. 4.1mm platform implants can be impressed with
impression coping emergence profiles of 4.1, 5.0, 6.0 and 7.5mm direct or
indirect. 5.0mm implants offer 5.0, 5.6, 6.0 and 7.5 emergence profiles (Fig.5)
and impression copings for 6.0mm platform implants are produced with emergence
profiles of 6.0, 6.8 and 7.5mm direct and indirect as well.
Fig. 5
Indirect Twist-Lock impression copings require a special
tool (catalog # ICDOO) for tightening and direct impression copings require
a 0.048' hex driver. The QuickSeat® feature of the impression copings
will give tactile and audible feed back when fully seated. A special tool
(catalog # IQSAO1) is available to activate and deactivate the QuickSeat®
feature. Twist-Lock impression copings are machined in a symmetrical
geometry and can therefore be repositioned in to the impression in any of
three ways, as long as the grooves on the impression coping line up with
the grooves in the impression material upon repositioning the copings in
to the impression.

Provide® abutment level impression
Fig. 7
Provide® abutments are impressed with color coded plastic
impression copings intended for the abutment level impression technique.
The color coding does not follow the implant platform color scheme but
instead is color coded in regards to the implant platform diameter
and abutment height, regardless of the abutment collar height.
Remove any comfort caps or temporaries from the
Provide® abutment
and snap the appropriate colored impression coping over the abutment,
lining up the flat sides of the abutment with the flat sides inside the
impression coping. Load a full arch impression tray and pick up the
coping in the impression.
Fig. 8
4.1mm implant platform Provide® abutments with a abutment height
of 4.0mm are impressed with a yellow (catalog # PIC484, Fig.7 left) colored coping
and 5.5mm height abutments are impressed with a gray (catalog # PIC485, Fig.8 left)
plastic impression coping. Both 5.0 and 6.0mm implant platform Provide®
abutments with a abutment height of 4.0mm are impressed with a green
(catalog # PIC654, Fig.7 right) colored coping and 5.5mm height abutments are impressed
with a brown (catalog # PIC455, Fig.8 Right) plastic impression coping.
Fig. 9
In case the Provide® abutment needs to be modified intraorally
before impression taking, a white plastic, implant platform and abutment
height dependent impression coping (Fig.9) is utilized after modification of the
abutment instead of the color coded plastic impression copings. Snap the
white coping over the prepared abutment and syringe impression material
through the top and sides of the coping and pick up the coping with a
full arch impression.
