Astra Tech IMPRESSION COPINGS
OsseoSpeed
Astra started to color code actual components in 2010 to facilitate
easier identification in regards to platform diameters. Below both
identification systems are described as "old style" and "new style".
Indirect copings
Old style
Fixture level impression copings for the
indirect (closed tray) impression technique for each
implant/abutment connection platform (3.0, 3.5/4.0, 4.5/5.0) group are
machined in a symmetrical triangular fashion in relation to their indexing feature,
making the repositioning in to the impression effortless because any position
as long as the flat sides of the impression coping line up with the flat sides
in the impression is correct. No tools are required to screw the impression coping on
to the implant or analog.
Only one impression coping for the 3.0 platform
is offered and can be identified through the platform number printed on
to the impression coping body. 3.5/4.0 and 4.5/5.0 platform diameter group
impression copings are available in two lengths (16, 19mm). 3.5/4.0 platform
group impression copings can be identified through the platform group
numbers "3.5/4.0" printed on to the coping body. The 4.5/5.0 platform
group impression coping is only marked with the numbers "4.5", even
though a 5.0 implant can also be impressed with this impression coping.
The latest versions of the impression copings are color coded according
to the platform group diameter (3.0 yellow, 3.5/4.0 aqua, 4.5/5.0 lilac).
Direct indexed
Fixture level impression copings for the
direct (open tray) impression technique
are rendered with and without indexing feature for the 3.5/4.0 and
4.5/5.0 platform groups only. Use of non indexed impression copings
should only occur after careful consideration because if the
restoration design needs to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances
after impression taking a second impression procedure with indexed
impression copings may be necessary.
Direct non indexed
Both platform group direct
impression copings are available in four (21, 26, 22, 27mm) lengths
depending on the platform group. Indexed copings are marked with
their respective platform group numbers on the top edge of the impression
coping body. Non indexed impression copings are marked with two slots at
the top edge of the impression coping for the 3.5/4.0 platform and three
slots for the 4.5/5.0 platform. The latest versions of the impression
copings are color coded according to the platform group diameter
(3.0 yellow, 3.5/4.0 aqua, 4.5/5.0 lilac).

Only one impression coping for the 3.0 platform
is offered and can be identified through the yellow coloring. 3.5/4.0 and 4.5/5.0 platform diameter group
impression copings are available in two lengths (16, 19mm). 3.5/4.0 platform
group impression copings can be identified through the aqua coloring. The 4.5/5.0 platform
group impression copings are identified through lilac coloring .

3.5/4.0 components are color coded aqua and 4.5/5.0 platform copings
are color coded lilac.
Plastic copings
Abutment level impressions
over Direct API
abutments are carried out with emergence profile specific plastic copings.
Color coding of the copings is carried out in regards to the emergence
profile of the abutment and not in relation to the platform diameter group.
The plastic copings engage the flat side of the abutment and snap over the
abutment. A raised nub on top of the impression coping indicates where
the flat side inside the coping is located. Number "4" direct abutments are
impressed with a white coping, number "5" direct abutments are impressed
with a gray coping and number "6" direct abutments utilize a blue coping.
UniAbutment
UniAbutments for 3.5/4.0 and 4.5/5.0 platform diameter implants are produced
with a 20 degree or 45 degree cone and as a 20 degree angled abutment for
screw retained restorations. Impression copings for UniAbutments are not
platform diameter dependent but chosen in regards to the degree of the cone
or 20 degree angled abutment type.
Indirect copings
Indirect, closed tray abutment level impression copings are machined as a
monoblock combining the fixation screw and the impression coping body in to
a singular entity. These copings are universally utilized for both cone (20
and 45 degree) UniAbutments. Making it mandatory to note on the Rx for the
laboratory technician which degree cone is actually installed on the implant.
Direct copings
Direct, open tray 20 and 45 degree cone abutment level impression copings
are machined as a two component unit, the fixation screw and the impression
coping body. 20 degree and 45 degree impression copings are specifically
designed for either 20 or 45 degree UniAbutments. Although neither
impression coping is marked for degree type identification. Both 20 and 40
degree impression copings are offered in two emergence profiles of 4.3 and
5.5mm.
20 degree angled abutment impression copings are only available as a
direct impression impression coping.
Locator® & ball
Locator®
Installed Locator® abutments are impressed with standard snap on
Locator® impression copings.
Ball abutment
Ball abutments are impressed with blue plastic snap on impression copings.
The ball dimension and female attachment portion are designed after the
Preci-Clix attachment from Preat Corp and 100% compatible.
OsseoSpeed Profile
Indirect indexed
Fixture level impression copings for the
indirect (closed tray) impression technique for Profile implants
are machined in a asymmetrical fashion in relation to the indexing feature.
The flat side of the impression coping needs to be aligned with the lowest
part of the implant slope at the time of impression taking.
This feature makes the repositioning in to the impression effortless
because only one position, as long as the flat side of the impression
coping lines up with the flat side in the impression is correct. No
tools are required to screw the impression coping on to the implant or
analog. Two indirect impression copings are offered, short and long.
Direct indexed
Fixture level impression copings for the
direct (open tray) impression
technique are rendered with engaging indexing feature for the Profile
implants. The impression coping body is machined with a channel to be
aligned with the lowest part of the implant slope at the time of
impression taking. Two direct impression copings are offered, short and
long.
