Nobel Biocare IMPLANTS
All implants from this manufacturer are made of
grade 4 titanium with
a TiUnite® surface treatment. The TiUnite®, surface texture is
achieved through plasma electrolytic oxidation (anodization) resulting in
the transformation of the titanium oxide in to a crystalline state with
ceramic like properties.
NobelActive
Fig. 1
NobelActive implants (Fig.1) have a surface treatment from the apex of
the implant to the edge of the implant/abutment interface. The slightly
tapered body geometry is machined with progressively deeper threads
towards the apical and a secondary groove at the edge of the more coronal
threads. A faint table (0.25mm) between the actual implant/abutment
interface and the outer edge of the implant may be unused to function as
a platform switching feature or seating surface of prosthetic components,
depending on the type of final restoration. Implants are machined with
a internal hexagon functioning as the indexing feature. Four implant
body diameters of 3.0, 3.5, 4.3 and 4.9mm in six lengths (8.5, 10, 11.5, 13,
15, 18) are offered in this product group. 3.0mm implants are not produced
in lengths of 8.5 and 18mm. Although the implant manufacturers stated
length is not the actual length of the implant. Each implant is 0.5mm
shorter than advertised.
Fig. 2
The indexing feature
dimensions are implant body diameter appurtenant, meaning that the
indexing feature (Fig.2) is machined differently in regards to the implant body
diameter. 3.0mm diameter implants have a 2.5mm diameter indexing feature while
3.5 diameter implants have a 3mm diameter indexing feature. 4.3 and 4.9
diameter implants share the same indexing feature dimension
of 3.4mm. Each indexing feature dimension is color coded for easy
identification fuchsia (3.5mm body diameter) or yellow/blue
(4.3 and 4.9mm body diameter).
Although the color coding is only evident on the product packaging and
the implants are packaged without cover screw.

All of the implants in this product group are machined with a external
indexing feature (Fig.3) in four implant/abutment platform diameters of 3.5 (NP,
narrow platform), 4.1 (RP, regular platform), 5.0 (WP, wide platform).
The indexing feature consists of a external hexagon design of
platform diameter specific dimensions, making prosthetic components
incompatible from platform diameter to platform diameter. No color coding
is evident for platform diameter identification on any of the external
hex implants.

All of the implants in this product group are machined with a internal
indexing feature in four implant/abutment platform diameters of 3.5, 4.3,
5.0 and 6.0mm. The indexing feature (Fig.12) consists of a tri-lobe design of
platform diameter specific dimensions, making prosthetic components
incompatible from platform diameter to platform diameter. Each platform
diameter is color coded for easy platform diameter identification. 3.5mm
platform implants are color coded fuchsia and identified as narrow
platform (NP). 4.3mm platform implants are color coded yellow and
identified as regular platform (RP). 5.0mm platform implants are color
coded blue and identified as wide platform (WP). 6.0mm platform implants
are color coded green and without any further identification designation.
Fig. 13
NobelReplace implants are offered in two body
geometries, parallel (Fig.13, left) and tapered (Fig.13, right). Both geometries surface treated area
extends uniformly from the edge of the implant/abutment platform to the
apical and a diminishing thread depth towards the apical of the implant.
A small secondary groove is fashioned underneath the main V shaped threads
to enhance initial stability. The tapered version is machined without
cutting flutes (Fig.16) at the apical portion while the parallel version is
produced with cutting flutes (Fig.14) . All four platform diameter tapered implants
are available in four advertised lengths of 8,
Fig. 14
10, 13 and 16mm. Although
each tapered implant is actually 0.6mm longer than advertised. 3.5mm
platform parallel wall geometry implants are produced in four (10, 11.5,
13, 15mm) lengths while all other platform diameter implants are offered
in one additional length of 18mm. Although each parallel implant is
actually 0.6mm longer than advertised. There are no parallel wall 6.0mm
platform diameter implants available.
Fig. 15
Replace Select implants are offered in two body
geometries, parallel (Fig.15, left) and tapered (Fig.15, right). Both geometries have a machined collar of
1.5mm and are surface treated below the collar, extending to the apical.
A V shaped thread pattern is common to both body geometries with a
diminishing thread depth toward the apical of the implant. The tapered
version is machined without cutting flutes (Fig.16) at the apical portion while
the parallel version is produced with cutting flutes (Fig.14). All four platform
diameter tapered implants are available in four advertised lengths of 8,
10, 13 and 16mm. Although

drills and drill protocoll
as tri-lobe NobelReplace® implants but utilize the
tooling and
prosthetic components of the NobelActive implant group.
NobelDirect
NobelDirect implants are one piece designs, incorporating the
implant and abutment in to a single entity. These types of implants are
installed and the abutment portion prepped for the restoration intraorally
or left unadulterated in case of NobelDirect Posterior implants,
necessitating abutment level impressions with or without impression copings..
Fig. 22
NobelDirect Groovy implants (Fig.22) are machined with
the same implant body geometry and thread pattern as NobelReplace
tapered implants. The abutment portion of the implant is 8mm tall and
processed with the TiUnite® surface treatment throughout its entire
height. This feature will allow various insertion depths depending on
tissue height. NP 3.5mm platform diameter implants are offered in three
lengths of 10, 13 and 16mm while 4.3 (RP), 5.0 (WP) and 6.0mm platform are
available in one additional length of 8mm.
Fig. 23
NobelDirect Oval
implants (Fig.23) are machined with
the same implant body geometry and thread pattern as NobelReplace
tapered implants.
The differentiating feature of
NobelDirect Oval implants compared to NobelDirect Groovy
implants is the shape of the abutment portion geometry. NobelDirect
Oval abutments are produced with two flat sides opposing each other,
creating a oval shaped abutment portion.
Fig. 24
NobelDirect™ Posterior
implants (Fig.24) are machined with
the same implant body geometry and thread pattern as NobelReplace
tapered implants and the abutment portion of the implant is machined as
a 4mm abutment height Snappy abutment. Available as RP (4.3mm
platform diameter), WP (5.0mm) and 6.0mm in lengths of 8, 10, 13 and 16mm.
Fig. 25
NobelDirect 3.0
implants (Fig.25) are in a unique class
of their own within the NobelDirect product group . A machined
surface abutment portion of 5.5mm height is mated to a 3.0mm diameter
parallel wall implant portion in lengths of 13 and 15mm. The groovy
thread pattern design is carried over from the other NobelDirect
implants.
